The Giant's Ring in Belfast, Northern Ireland, is an ancient site centred around a neolithic henge.
Situated near Shaw's Bridge, south of the city, the standing stone monument is surrounded by a circular earth bank, 200 metres in diameter and 4 metres high. It is an Area of Significant Archaeological Interest.
This is a close-up of the henge, late on a December afternoon, shortly before sunset. I wanted to capture the interesting textures in the stone, and the low light helps to bring this out as well as casting a warm light over the surface.
I think this is one of my favourite shots of the Giant's Ring so far.
