River Lagan Swanby *Gerard1972

A swan on the river Lagan between Belfast and Lisburn.
I quite like the simplicity of this shot, while the colours of the reflections add some interest.

(Reworked from scratch - 7 August. Slightly closer view of the swan with improved detail and background colours.)

I was reviewing my RAVs: [link] and I still like this photo but I wish you'd post it just a bit larger. I still wish I could see some of the detail in the swan's head.

It's still a very nice photo.

Thanks Jonny. It was one of those shots I'd almost consigned to the bin as the colour balance was so off on the original, like a sepia effect nearly. It's not bad for ISO 500... wish I had taken more care over the shot however.

This is riveting.

The motion of the swan from lower right towards the upper left.
The way the eye creates a line running in the opposite direction through the light patches bracketing the swan.
The clarity of the water, the outward ripples around the swan, that beautiful brown on top, and the rest of the color patches in the water all combine into a photo that grabs the eye and won't let go.

Just one question; How's the detail in the swan's head?
