The sky is filled with the warm shades of dawn as the sun rises over Drum Bridge on a fine autumn day.
Drum Bridge is an old stone bridge over the river Lagan in South Belfast, Northern Ireland. Having caught a few beautiful sunsets here, I was curious to capture a sunrise. I was hoping to get down on the decking by the river, but it was submerged, thanks to some recent heavy rain. However, the best view of the sunrise was from this angle, looking towards the bridge.
I think you have caught a rare mirror, with an amazing sunrise. You have gotten the angel right, the colours deep and rich. Movement in the water at the right position to finally move the views eye to the bridge, which sits midway between fore and background.
This is photo is evidence of a carefully thought up location, the clear mirror is the clincher for me and just the right amount for to enhance the sunrise, not take away from it. Amazing photo.
I would have maybe pushed the highlights a bit just to get more of the white stone of the bridge and dropped the mid-tones to give it the stone the darken effect, however that is just what I would do
The colors are enchanting, and the angle of the composition is close to perfect. I love the way the waterway narrows out on the right side, giving viewers the impression that there is more to be discovered, and that the river is continuous. Although the title says "Drum Bridge," the bridge is almost an ironic afterthought once the viewer catches a glimpse of the sky and the warm reflections on the water. It's hard to tear our eyes from such beauty. The piece is also extremely calming, and really brings out the best in nature, while still hinting that man can also bring out nice works of art (the bridge) in harmony with the natural world.
